America was more likely named after Richard Ameryk, a Bristol merchant and financier of early expeditions to America. Other than monarchs, places are very rarely named after a person's first name.

Now that is a stroke of luck Ragman, if they had used his first name it might have been called Dickland.

Good grid. I wasn't up to date with the new elements before playing this.
One thing though, the hyphen in Saint-Etienne made me think you had to be referring to the city. The band name did not have a hyphen.
