Couldn't the Middlesbrough, Newcastle group just be 'places in the north-east'. I know they are football teams but places would be easier to think of.

I agree with PuzzBrit about the north east ones. Newcastle and Hartlepool were both missing 'United'. But other than that, it was a good grid, with some nice ambiguity across different groups.
