Thanks rabbit for your comments, which I take on board, although it seems your sentences were also words just preceding others.

I actually thought it was a clever trap to have three lines each followed by a shared word, while the fourth line was something different (Dickens). I kept scratching my head as to what shared word other than "house" could possibly follow "bleak."

That's not really a valid defence of a weak grid.
