Nice grid. I got 2 groups and 2 connections, though interestingly not the exact same 2. One link came into focus once I was shown the groupings at the end---it was not the connection I had been trying for, but was perfectly reasonable. And the Spider group turned out to be much more specific and clever than I had realized, so I didn't get the extra point, but it was a great idea for a link! I also wasn't able to suss out the more British category, but that's no surprise---and I appreciated the constructor's note about subjective fame, thanks for making this US solver feel less ignorant. :)

Enjoyed this grid and managed to crack it; I shall forgive you for using two of my most recent ideas!
