I missed a point saying they were named after gods (which the planets were initially, so maybe worth expanding the definition!).

Calryd, you might have a point with mercury, but the others were clearly named after the planets, not after the gods. You might just as well say that americium is named after Amerigo Vespucci...

Regardless of Pluto's current status, the element was still named after what was then considered a planet so fits in the group.
