They're pasta endings.... but yeah it's not a great group. Why not try translations of pasta as a group in your next grid? Then you get clues like worms and bow ties. This works better: as a solver, you want to see clues that could fall into lots of possible groups.

This needed better red herrings- clues which appear to fit into group A but actually belong to group B.

But don't give up! Grid beats no grid
