Ore does not mean iron....

The iron group doesn't really work as they all don't mean iron at all really do they?

Nice ideas, but three groups had identifiers which were too similar, and the Niels group, as well as being people whose names were used for elements, is also a group in which all the members begin with the atomic symbol for an element- Ni - nickel, La lanthanum, Li lithium, Y yttrium. Also, ore follows iron, it's not a synonym.
