Difference in pie?

In America pies are sweet and for desert with flakey pastry crust, in UK they are for meals and have meats and veggies and stuff with sturdy dough around.

Thanks McPennace. So in America they are exclusively sweet? As in the UK they can be savoury or sweet and could have puff or shortcrust pastry. However, I do remember once being offered pumpkin pie and looking forward to a nice savoury meal only to be disappointed with a sweet dessert.

Maybe not exclusively, but stereotypically yeah. There are chicken pot pies in the US that are savoury, but if someone from America asks if you would like a pie, they mean a sweet pie, so your story is accurate
