You are confusing the Ford Motor company, which is the name of the whole company, with the names of the makes of cars, for examples: Mercury Marquis (make Mercury, model Marquis), Jaguar XJ (make Jaguar, model XJ), Lincoln Continental (make Lincoln, model Continental), and Ford Mustang (make Ford, model Mustang). All of the makes of Mercury, Lincoln, Jaguar, and Ford are (/were) owned by the Ford Motor Company.
