Liked this! Not too hard (provided some reasonable general knowledge) but made you think!
Spanish was good because it covered so many disparate things, and good wee misdirect with ships/states.
And really liked it introducing Dupin which I didn’t know of so learnt something! From Wikipedia intro:
“ Le Chevalier C. Auguste Dupin… is a fictional character created by Edgar Allan Poe. Dupin made his first appearance in Poe's 1841 short story "The Murders in the Rue Morgue", widely considered the first detective fiction story.
…
Poe created the Dupin character before the word detective had been coined. The character laid the groundwork for fictional detectives to come, including Sherlock Holmes, and established most of the common elements of the detective fiction genre.”
Thx!
PS wee typo in Missouri.

Promising but Maine could quite easily be swapped with one of the states in the ships category.

Enjoyedthis grid. Couldn't see the hyphen on phone cscreen so was handicapped on the Spanish group.. Aren't those states all part of New England?

Never heard of Dupin but got the group, so OK. Got the states once I got the geographic link. Got the Spanish stuff. So the ships fell into place. OK. 10/10.

I thought new England, turns out new Jersey isn't one.
Good grid, with enough red herrings (Kitty - that's the point!)
