It's not an English bulldog, it's a British bulldog.
It may be this was set by an American (indicated by spelling 'colours' without the 'u'). Often the mistake made across the pond, is that UK, Britain and England are synonymous; ignoring England and Wales, and the contested Northern Ireland.

@PJ Farrell: Unlike the UK and England, both "English" and "British" are interchangeable and correct terms for the bulldog. Feel free to look it up; doing so might save you the time required to write a condescending message. Hope you enjoyed the grid.
