Never really understand 'I've never heard of that' as a criticism. Obscure clues might make it harder, but they don't invalidate the board. On the other hand, yes, the key words for the answers need to be widened. I'm not sure how you have it rejecting 'Jane'.

I used lower case, as did all the clues. Maybe I mistyped it. The point about the bread is that if they're not in normal use it doesn't seem right to include them in a British English grid, which is why I phrased it as a question, given that I've not lived there for many years.
